I have four of these engines in various states of repair sort of awaiting a decision on whether or to what extent I should repair them. There are a few more about than the Bowman models but that said they are still difficult to find and ones with both burner and original box even more so. In original form the brass parts were painted with gold paint which, when they get to this age, has largely flaked off. So any restorer is faced with the decision, 'do I leave the original paint?', 'do I strip the paint off and polish the brass?' or 'should I try to repaint in a gold colour?'. Tricky one innit? Also on mine the firebox is painted in black crinckle paint so do I leave it, strip and paint plain black or try to get a crinckle finish again. Decisions, decisions decisions !!! |
